Woman kidnapped, beaten, strangled in Mecca: Cops report

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — A man was arrested in Mecca on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, domestic assault and false detention, authorities announced Sunday.

Thermal station officials were stopped in the 91000 block of Fifth Street in Mecca in relation to a 42-year-old woman who was kidnapped, beaten, strangled with a belt and held against her will for over eight hours.

The woman sustained moderate injuries and was treated and discharged from hospital. During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Daniel Gamez Zaragoza, 39, from Thermal.

Zaragoza was found at his home in Block 69300 of Peirce Street in Thermal around 3:10am on Sunday and arrested.
