Eight Colombian women have been released and thirteen arrested in France thanks to efforts by the Spanish National Police and French police to bust a human trafficking ring.

The investigation began when the Spanish National Police discovered that a trafficking ring was sexually exploiting Colombian women who, after being captured, were sent from Spain to the French town of La Roche-sur-Yon.

Spanish National Police and French police worked together to dismantle a criminal network dedicated to human trafficking and sexual exploitation, with profits laundered by buying properties in Zaragoza and Oviedo, Spain. Working with EUROPOL, the Spanish and French officers conducted thirteen searches: seven in France, four in Oviedo and two in Zaragoza, resulting in the seizure of €282,000 in cash and 40 mobile phones, with €53,000 seized from existing accounts and two homes were valued at 340,000 euros in France.

The criminal network used the Internet to advertise the women, who were then prostituted in brothels but also taken to hotels or apartments to extend their stay and charge more for the service, the General Directorate of the Spanish National Police reported.

The 13 detainees are currently being investigated for suspected membership in a criminal organization, human trafficking and prostitution offences.

The National Police would like to remind the public that anonymous and confidential reports of these crimes can be made by calling 900 10 50 90 or by email [email protected]
