‘Vivo’, ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ filmmaker named to VIEW Conference speaker list


The creative teams behind the animated films “Vivo” and “The Mitchells vs. the Machines” from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are among the newest speakers for the October VIEW conference in Turin, Italy.

“Vivo” director and co-writer Kirk DeMicco, production designer Carlos Zaragoza, visual effects supervisor Karl Herbst and Head of Character Animation Kevin Webb will be on hand to discuss the musical adventure with the voices of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Zoe Saldana . that follows a kinkajou on a lyrical quest.

The Mitchells vs. the Machines producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller will attend a special panel at the conference. Also, “Mitchell’s” director and co-writer Mike Rianda will be on hand to speak with production designer Lindsey Olivares and visual effects supervisor Mike Lasker about the Netflix hit.

The VIEW Conference gathers some of the top professionals from the fields of animation, visual effects, computer graphics, games, interactive and immersive media, virtual production and more for a week with keynotes, talks, presentations and workshops. The 22nd edition, which takes place October 17-22, will be a hybrid affair, with a mix of face-to-face events at the OGR venue in Turin and virtual sessions.

Also on the roster are creator of “Love, Death + Robots” and Blur Studio founder Tim Miller, who will speak with executive producer Jennifer Miller about the Netflix science fiction anthology series, and Peter Ramsey, the co -Director of the Oscar winner of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and Elaine Bogan, director of DreamWorks Animations “Spirit Untamed” and one of the directors of DWA’s “Tales of Arcadia” franchise by Guillermo del Toro.

Other newly confirmed speakers include Hair Love co-director Everett Downing Jr .; “Over the Moon” production designer Celine Desrumaux; Marlon West, visual effects supervisor for the upcoming Disney series “Iwájú”; Marc Petit, Vice President and General Manager of Unreal Engine at Epic Games; and Adobe VP of 3D and Immersive Sébastien Deguy.

A special panel on the video game series “Medal of Honor” will take place with the Game Director of Respawn Entertainment, Peter Hirschmann, the filmmaker Anthony Giacchino and the composer Michael Giacchino. Hirschmann wrote and directed the 2020 game Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, which includes a gallery of short documentaries about World War II, including Colette, directed by Anthony Giacchino, which won an Oscar for the short film that year. Michael Giacchino worked with Nami Melumad on the game’s soundtrack.
