Despite rumors to the contrary, a possible connection between Sead Hakšabanović and the New York Red Bulls appears to be dead.
Last week, Reports from Sweden had linked the MLS club to the Montenegrin attacker who is currently on the books of the Swedish club IFK Norrköping. A few weeks ago, a spate of reports on both sides of the Atlantic reported that Hakšabanović was getting closer to a deal with the Red Bulls. And then the deal fell through when his current club thought the Red Bulls’ offer was too low.
Now a source tells FanSided’s MLS Multiplex that the Red Bulls and Hakšabanović are not currently holding transfer talks. In fact, a source close to the situation said that all rumors of a possible resumption of talks were false and simply not true.
Hakšabanović’s current club Norrköping was aiming for a transfer between five and six million euros. The source said the Red Bulls’ last offer a few weeks ago tipped the balance at around € 3.5 million.
Hakšabanović, 21, made ten appearances for Montenegro after playing for his country’s youth team.
In 2017, Hakšabanović signed a deal with English Premier League club West Ham after being transferred from Halmstad in Sweden for over $ 3 million. He failed with the first team of the English team and was loaned out.
The Red Bulls, who have reached the MLS playoffs every season since 2010, urgently need reinforcements in their attack. Hakšabanović, who has a high working pace, was considered the ideal complement to the attack.
The attacker moves well in the room, can play quick one-touch combinations and has a certain intuition when moving towards the goal.
Last week, the Red Bulls signed the US youth international Cameron Harperwho was last at Celtic. Harper has similar characteristics to Hakšabanović in the last third, although he is not nearly as polished.
