Public holidays in Spain 2022 – complete list of dates for each autonomous community

IN Spain, when bank holidays fall during the week, they are often combined with the weekend and referred to as puente – a bridge.

On those long weekends and around busy bank holidays like Easter, accommodation fills up quickly, prices rise and train and bus tickets sell out. So book early for the good deals.

This year, the people of Spain will be treated to eight national holidays, in addition to the holidays set by each autonomous community.

It might be wise to make your inquiries early, as these vacation booking hacks have become popular with savvy employees hoping to get the most time for their vacations.

Full-time employees in Spain are entitled to 22 days of paid vacation per year and some employers choose to include public holidays.

You can take all your holiday at once or split it up, but Spanish labor law requires at least one holiday to be two weeks long.

In general, employees must apply for annual leave as early as possible.

Although employers can refuse to grant leave at a specific time, employers cannot refuse employees to take leave at all. However, you could also restrict when vacation can be taken, for example at peak times or when several employees want to be free at the same time.

In 2022 there are eight national holidays for everyone in Spain and there are two more holidays that fall on a Sunday.

The decision to postpone these two days, May 1st (Labour Day) and December 25th (Christmas Day), to the following Monday or even to another month is up to each Autonomous Community.

These are the eight national holidays for 2022:
