Obituary for Ethel Stewart (1930 – 2021) – Weslaco, TX

WESLACO — Ethel Claire Stewart, 91, died to immortality on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the John Knox Village Health Center, Weslaco, Texas. She was born on December 6, 1930 in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Her parents were Reverend William Ward Stewart and Ethel Claire Shields Stewart. Ethel and her parents, brother and sister moved to Pharr, Texas in 1933. Her father was for many years a well-liked rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pharr. After his retirement in 1968 he moved to Weslaco with his wife and Ethel. After the death of her parents, she continued to live in their home and enjoyed the company of her neighbor Mrs. Pearl Brixey.

Ethel worked at several banks in Weslaco, where she loved bank customers and employees. In 2006, she sold her home and moved to John Knox Village, where she enjoyed the company and friendship of everyone who lived there. She was especially grateful for the friendship and support she received from Andrea Treviño and her caregivers.

Ethel is survived by a nephew, Andres William Stewart, living in Zaragoza, Spain, and two great-nieces and one grand-nephew, and a nephew, Alejandro Stewart, living in Tarragona, Spain. Her sister, Mary Claire, and William, her brother, predeceased her.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, followed by a memorial service in the chapel at John Knox Village.
