Joan Laporta has spoken about the referendum in which Barcelona fans voted overwhelmingly for Espai Barca.
Espai Barca is the project in which Barcelona will transform their facilities, with a major makeover of the Camp Nou and the Palau Arena, where the basketball team plays.
The project includes a range of new builds and renovations and will cost around €1.5 billion.
Before funding for the project is requested, cash-strapped Barca will present the final decision to the members over the weekend.
Almost half of the members voted on the new online procedure, and even 87% voted for the project.
It means Espai Barca will continue until Barca and President Laporta find €1.5bn funding.
And after the news broke, Laporta, who was in a jubilant mood, spoke about the importance of the occasion.
“It’s a success for all Barcelona fans and for the uniqueness of the club,” said the Barca president, quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
“The members have decided in which direction the club should go. Barca have become the forerunners among the big sports clubs with electronic voting.
“Once again, a very important decision lay in the hands of the members.
“I get excited and delighted when I see the Camp Nou mock-ups and the new arena. It will be a step forward in our lives.”
