Charges expected for alleged violent crimes in thermal baths


MECCA, CA – Criminal charges are expected on Wednesday against a man arrested in Mecca on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, domestic assault and false detention.

Thermal station deputies were stopped Thursday in the 91000 block of Fifth Street in Mecca in relation to a 42-year-old woman who was allegedly kidnapped, beaten, strangled with a belt and held against her will for over eight hours to Sgt. Matthew Allert of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Allert said the woman sustained moderate injuries. She was treated and then discharged from the hospital.

After being identified as a suspect, Daniel Gamez Zaragoza, 39, of Thermal, was located and arrested Sunday morning at his apartment on Block 69300 of Pierce Street in Thermal.
