No need to break the bank to get in shape this summer! It’s the season for free or donation-based outdoor workouts across Austin. Here we’ve rounded up five of our favorites for June and beyond.
Sunset & Savasana (until July 27th)
Stretch and relax under the shade of 300-year-old oak trees with this weekly class at Jacob Fontaine Park in north Austin. Hosted by My Vinyasa Practice, this training takes place every Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Bring your own yoga mat and water.
Grounded Lessons at Fareground (Ongoing)
In its weekly series, Swift Fit Events is offering a trio of free sweat sessions at this downtown location. Work up a sweat with his high-energy, bootcamp-inspired workout Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m., or wrap up your weekend with a relaxing vinyasa yoga class at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. Bring your own water, but yoga mats and others Equipment will be provided.
HIIT in the Park and Barre in the Park (Ongoing)
Burn off some calories and reward your efforts with an ice cold beer and Pueblo Viejo tacos at While Brewing. South Austin Brewery hosts monthly charity barre and high-intensity interval training classes throughout the summer and beyond at their on-site soccer field. Barre in the Park (June 26, Jul 17, Aug 21, Sept 18 at 9am) includes a guided barre workout from Barre 3, while HIIT in the Park (July 10, Aug 14 , Sept. 11 at 9 am ) features a sweat session from Lumos Fitness, featuring strength training, bodyweight movements, and sprinting and endurance elements. Bring your own water and a mat for barre training.
Yoga at Zilker (ongoing)
Led by yoga instructor Adam Horn, this weekly, donation-based class takes place on Saturdays at 11am and runs throughout the summer and beyond. As well as bringing your yoga mat and water, pack a bathing suit so you can take a dip in Barton Springs after class!
Fitness in the park (from July 9th)
Mark your calendars because starting next month, the Austin Parks Foundation will be bringing back this popular series of outdoor classes across the city. Scheduled sweat sessions include Mixxed Fit at Pan American Park (July 9), Kickboxing at Metz Park (July 23) and Zumba at Parque Zaragoza (August 13). Be sure to pack plenty of water to stay hydrated all the time.
