11 of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Hairstyles, Rank

Glorious purpose indeed.

Tom Hiddleston has played Loki in the MCU for 11 years – believe it?

And during his tenure as the god of mischief, he wore many, many hairstyles. So here they are, in order from worst to best:

Disney +

For research purposes, of course.

The prickly layers of Avengers: Endgame

Marvel Studios

Loki makes a brief but funny appearance during Time Heist in Endgamewhere he sees the opportunity to steal the tesseract and do it (duh). This happens immediately afterwards The Avengers, so the hair department had to recreate the spidery hair Loki wore in that movie. I wasn’t a fan of the original look, and this replica is even worse. So many spiky layers! Last place.

The (slightly less) prickly layers of The Avengers

Marvel Studios

This was the original prickly look, and although less intense than that Endgame Version, it’s just not the right hood for our guy.

This look isn’t necessarily terrible, but it just doesn’t fit our dear Loki’s vibe. Where’s the mischief? Where is the authority? Did Odin get him to style his hair like this? If so, I think I understand all the grudges Loki carried around with him.

The two helmets from Thor and The Avengers

Marvel Studios

They say you can hide a bad haircut under a hat, but those helmets only brought more attention to the fact that Loki wasn’t that good-looking. That Thor The helmet looks like it is fused into his head, and the horns pointing straight up look like antennas. The more dramatic avenger Helm makes his spiky hair look like a tiny feather scarf. Either way, both helmets are inferior to the crown we see wearing in later installments.

The longer, looser hairstyle in Thor: The dark world

Paramount Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

Where his earlier looks were overstyled and restrictive was the Loki we saw Thor: The dark world stepped away from (part of) the hair gel and let his hair grow a little in prison. It wasn’t his biggest, but he was definitely moving in the right direction.

His sad, grieving look in Thor: The dark world

Marvel Studios

In his grief after Frigga’s death, Loki appears to have given up all efforts to style his hair and have it done naturally. The tousled, long locks were perfect for Loki’s fear for most of this movie and made him look like a rock star. The overall look may be a little sad and unkempt, but what can I say? If we judge hair for what we are, it works.

The briefly seen curls of Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel Studios

I wish I didn’t have to include this scene, but unfortunately. Loki’s short and deadly (sob) appearance in Infinity war saw him basically wearing the same look he had THOR: Ragnarok. You can’t see it well because it’s dark, but these curls look well defined and not too gelled. Not a bad hairstyle to die for.

The DB Cooper Cosplay in Episode 1 of Loki

Disney +

This is what Tom Hiddleston Loki has ever seen, and you have to admire his dedication to ’70s aesthetics. His hair isn’t the most exciting, but there isn’t anything glaringly gross that more can be said than of his early MCU hairstyles. In fact, it looks pretty neat.

The short, voluminous bob from Loki

Disney +

Apparently, traveling through space on the Tesseract can fix your hair as well. Somehow, between his escape in Endgame and the first episode of Loki, Loki got a haircut and the spiky ends were gone (luckily).

The kind of half up / half down when he came in on earth THOR: Ragnarok

Marvel Studios / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

I think it’s hilarious that Loki’s clothing choices are so formal when he goes on adventures on earth, but his hair looks amazing. He keeps it neat by pinning the sides up but letting the bottom flow freely – a bit like a soft mullet.

And finally, the majestic, loose locks of THOR: Ragnarok

Marvel Studios

My God (of nonsense), that’s the look. Never have the Loki locksTM looked so voluminous, so well defined, or so silky. With or without headgear, Ragnarok showed Loki’s best MCU hair with a mile.
